LOUIS SIU

Founder and artistic director of Toolbox Percussion, Siu was the principal percussionist of the Macao Orchestra and one of the founding members of the Hong Kong New Music Ensemble. His orchestral appearances include concerts with the Hong Kong Philharmonic and the Hong Kong Sinfonietta.

He received his music education at Sydney Conservatorium of Music and the Chinese University of Hong Kong, he then graduated from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music.

 

He embarked PROJECT.TT in 2007 to promote music for percussion and tenor timpani, creating a platform for composers to experiment. Siu taught at the School of Creative Media in the City University of Hong Kong, he regularly conducts masterclasses at the Kasetsart University in Bangkok. He currently serves as a part-time instructor at the Chinese University of Hong Kong.

Former percussionist of the Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra, Lei Lei Hoi is the recipient of Macao Foundation scholarship. She graduated from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts and the Carnegie Mellon University. She is holding teaching positions at the Macao Conservatory, the Macau Youth Symphony Orchestra and the Macau Youth Symphony Band.

Born in Taiwan, Weichen is a respected marimba performer, and chamber, contemporary, and orchestral musician, currently based in Los Angeles, CA and Shanghai, China. He is the first percussionist to obtain both Doctor of Musical Arts and Artist Diploma qualification, as well as the only Asian keyboard committee member in Percussive Arts Society. He was awarded the lifelong membership of the National Music Honor Society Pi Kappa Lumbda.

Weichen received his Bachelor of Arts from National University of Arts. He then moved to the United States in 2006 and received his Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts from Boston University in 2008. In 2016, Weichen received Artist Diploma as a marimba major at The Boston Conservatory.

 

Weichen has awards includes the Boston University Honors Award in 2008 and 2013, the Outstanding Alumni Award of Taipei National University of the Arts in 2017, etc.

 

As an active soloist, Weichen has appeared as concerto soloist with ensemble and band all over the world, including Hong Kong Youth Symphonic Band, Houston Symphony, and Boston University Symphony Orchestra. He have also given concerts and masterclasses in Taiwan, Australia, Peru, México, China, Macau, Hong Kong, Japan, Italy, Singapore, Thailand, Russia, and United States.

Brian Chan

Former Toolbox Percussion associate artist, active player in overseas performance with Toolbox Percussion and recent graduate from the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, UK, Chan has studied with world-renowned percussionists including Paul Patrick, percussion principal of BBC Philharmonic Orchestra and Ian Wright, former timpani principal of Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra. He has been awarded the Friends Scholarship in Leeds College of Music. He performed with the Guangzhou Symphony, City Chamber Orchestra of Hong Kong and Hong Kong Chamber Wind Philharmonia.

Jacky Lam

Former Toolbox Percussion associate artist, active player in overseas performance with Toolbox Percussion and undergraduate of music department in the Hong Kong Baptist University under the teaching of Ms. Sophia Woo, Lam has been appointed as the percussionist of Hong Kong Baptist University Symphony Orchestra, Hong Kong Baptist University Wind Symphony, Hong Kong Band Directors Wind Orchestra and Hong Kong Baptist University Percussion Ensemble. Lam actively participated in exchange programme taken place at Macao Culture Centre Concert Hall and Kagoshima Central Concert Hall.

BT To Wing King, a graduate of Bachelor of Music Studies at Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) studied under Ms. Sophia Woo, a percussionist with the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, is a percussionist of Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra and a principal percussionist of Hong Kong Symphonic Winds (HKSW). BT has performed in different places including Macau, Taiwan, Holland for percussion festivals and the Winds Band competitions.

Alvin Chan Chun San studied in The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, where he held a degree in Bachelor of Music with first-class honour. He is now pursuing his Master's Degree under the full scholarship of The Hong Kong Jockey Club Music and Dance Fund. His teachers are Dr Lung Heung-wing, James Boznos and Alan Cumberland. Alvin toured to China, Taiwan and Japan as a member of the Asian Youth Orchestra in 2015.

 

In 2017, he performed in the World Dance Alliance Global Summit in St. John's, Canada, as an accompanist under the support of Hong Kong Arts Development Council. Alvin is the resident percussionist of Gaudeamus Dunhuang, freelance player of Macau Orchestra, Hong Kong Sinfonietta and Philharmonia APA. He is also a member of the ethnic drumming group "Island Sun Drum".
