Yip was a recipient of the Hong Kong Jockey Club Dance and Music Fund for his Master's degree of Music in the Chicago College of Performing Arts.

 

Prior to the CPA, he graduated from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts with the Bachelor of Music. His main teachers were Chai Hon Fong, Ray Wang, John Sharp and Richard Hirschl.

Yip is currently a member of the Hong Kong Sinfonietta. Before returning to Hong Kong, Yip was a member of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago. He had participated in music festivals in the past: the International Menuhin Music Academy, the Asian Youth Orchestra, the Kirishima Music Festival. In 2010, he participated in the Pacific Music Festival as principal cellist.
